Humlegårdsstrand, Sweden

A place worth sharing

The Larsson family has called this coastline home for generations. This is their story. Now it's yours too.

I'm Cole Roberts. My wife Therese, our three kids—Embla, Asta, and Frey—and I built Hop Farm Beach in Humlegårdsstrand.

I grew up in British Columbia. Hospitality's been part of my life since I was a kid working restaurant floors. Now I split time between running photography events across Europe and shooting weddings.

This cabin exists because Therese's family has been here for generations. Not marketing copy. Just fact.

Where it started

The Larssons settled in Borg, near Söderhamn. Farming. Forestry. Living close to the land. That's been the pattern for nearly four centuries.

Bertil's vision

Bertil Larsson—Therese's grandfather—looked at dense woodland and saw possibility. He developed parts of what's now Humlegårdsstrand. Built a place where the family could escape.

Summer home

Anders and Lena Larsson (Bertil's son and daughter-in-law) built their summer home here. Therese and her siblings Erik and Frida spent childhood summers swimming, fishing, exploring the shore.

Sweden meets Canada

I came to Umeå University for my Master's. Had no idea I was about to meet Therese Larsson. The rest, as they say, is history.

Coming home

We married in Vancouver in 2012. Moved back to Sweden in 2013 with baby Embla. Settled in Gävle, an hour south. But Humlegårdsstrand kept pulling us back.

Our own cabin

I was working in Norway when Therese's message came through: cabin for sale in Humlegårdsstrand. Right next to her parents' place.

We bought it the next day.

The idea forms

Three kids now. Longer summers up here. Quieter winters. One day we looked at each other and said it:

"This place is too good to keep to ourselves."

Started planning a cabin we could share with people who get it.

Hop Farm Beach opens

Two kilometres from our family cabin sits Hop Farm Beach. Digital detox. Baltic beaches. Swedish forest.

The same quiet that's drawn the Larssons back for generations.

Now it's yours.

Your hosts

We live an hour south in Gävle but spend as much time as possible at Humlegårdsstrand. You might see us on the beach, at the local fika spot, or picking blueberries in the forest.

When you stay at Hop Farm Beach, you're not just booking a cabin. You're becoming part of something the Larssons have protected for generations.
